For an unbirthday gift, I was given the book "Sondheim on Music: Minor Details and Major Decisions," which is a compilation, of several interviews with him on various musicals of his, as well as a list of all the songs he's written and the various recordings of them, and a few other things. Sweeney Todd was wonderful the second time. I noticed so many more little details and symbolism, and the actors were more settled in their roles. I'll give a more detailed reveiw tomorrow, I promise. Right now I just need to continue writing.

I saw the video of the original/touring cast? Sweeney Todd last night. I know, I really should have seen it before the revival, but somehow I never got around to it. I liked a great deal of it. I like Sweeney Todd with sets (the original's were gorgeous) and an ensamble (you can't have the reprise of "City on Fire" without them, and I love that ( Read more... )

I'm doing this odd thing where I match up Victorian gothic horror novels with scenes in Shakespeare plays and write fan fiction based on them (see "To Take Is Not To Give"). I'm doing Much Ado About Nothing/Woman in White and Othello/Phantom of the Opera, and I've done Richard III/Dracula. Any other ideas?
